Our story

Family-run since 1996, across the road from the water

Mr Fitz Restaurant was established in February 1996 and has proudly remained a family business ever since — still managed by the same family, still cooking for the same village.

The relaxing spot

A table, a bay, and time to spare

Located by the sea in the heart of Marsaxlokk, we set out to do one simple thing well: serve honest Mediterranean cooking in a warm, unhurried room where nobody rushes you through dessert.

The market is our supplier. The fleet moored in front of the terrace unloads onto the quay each morning, and the catch of the day is chosen there, weighed at the counter and grilled the same afternoon.

Everything else grew around that. Pasta rolled in the kitchen, a wood oven for pizza, a grill for Black Angus and duck, and a cocktail list built for the hour when the light goes gold over the boats.

Three decades on, the family still greets guests at the door — many of whom first came as children and now bring their own.

“We have never had to reinvent ourselves. The bay does the work — we just cook what it gives us.”

Timeline

How we got here

  1. 1996

    The doors open

Mr Fitz opens in February on Xatt is-Sajjieda, a small family dining room facing the fishing fleet — and the family has run it every day since.

  2. 2000s

    The kitchen finds its voice

Traditional Mediterranean cooking becomes the heart of the menu: fish soup, octopus in garlic, pasta rolled that morning and whatever the boats landed.

  3. 2010s

    Tables on the waterfront

The pavement terrace appears, cream linen against limestone, and the restaurant earns its nickname among locals — the relaxing spot.

  4. 2019

    The wood oven

Neapolitan-style pizza joins the menu, San Marzano D.O.P. tomato and Fior di Latte, alongside the Gozitana with Maltese sausage and baked potato.

  5. Today

    Rooms above the harbour

Mr Fitz Home Stays adds a sea-view penthouse and a harbour-view apartment, so guests can stay where they eat.
